Pretty Baby Stuff

It seems everyone around me is either getting engaged, getting married, or getting pregnant! I’ve thought about becoming a baby photographer before and now that I’m not employed, I’m considering it even more. But I need to polish my skills first!

So, in the mean time, I’ve been making lots and LOTS of baby girl headbands and I just wanted to share some of them with you guys because making these is my most favorite thing to do!

Oh, how I love pastels and lace!

But I’m also digging grays!

Especially with this mustard yellow.

And these bright colors are pretty amazing, too!

I have lots more but I don’t have time to take photographs of all of them. These are just some of my most favorite ones. I see myself looking for some baby girls to wear these in exchange for getting some photography practice!! ;)I need to figure out how I will go about doing so and I will definitely let you guys know when it happens!

Thank you so much for visiting my site!!

Whitewash Coffee Table

My mister must really love me! How else would he figure out just how happy it would make me to see him come home with this?

I had been saving my old cedar chest from my previous post because I’d been wanting to whitewash it but I was ambivalent about it because I wasn’t certain that the wood was the “right” color or grain. So, I drooled over this whitewash trunk in the mean time.

That is until, my mister came home with the perfect table to whitewash! πŸ˜‰ I cleaned it and gave it a really good sanding with an electric sander (doing it by hand would probably take longer but I’m sure it can be done that way too) to get rid of some marker writing from it and to smooth out the surface of it. After a good dusting, I followed the technique linked to the photo I linked above.

Here, it is in progress. It was a partly cloudy day but I wanted something to distract me from it so I decided to paint it anyway. Amazingly, whitewash actually dries fairly fast so I was done before it started raining!

I didn’t dilute my paint enough the for the second coat so I ended up having to sand down some of the areas that had more coverage on them like the bottom end of it right here but it still turned out pretty good.

Here is my final outcome to prove it! πŸ˜‰ I’ve got it in the living room for now but I’m not sure that I will keep it there, yet. I will decide after I get done making over the coffee table that I had before this one. I’ll see how that one turns out first.

The lighting wasn’t so good because it’s been pretty cloudy so it was difficult to get a shot that would do it justice but I’m pretty content with the results.

Though it may seem that white is the only color I work with, I have a post pending of a dining table that I made over in black. I promise to post it as soon as I get a break from other projects I’m currently working on.

Thank you so much for visiting!

My Cedar Chest Makeover

The moment I saw this chest, I just knew I wanted it! The outside had some water damage and the veneer on it was pretty bad but the inside is intact. I didn’t post any photos of it because I have it full of junk that I haven’t figured out where else to store but there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. 1902865_10201698310045434_1882921519_n
However, I found this picture here of an exact chest as this one and this is exactly what the inside of mine looks like.

I wish I knew how to restore it to it’s brand new condition but since I don’t and I didn’t want to spend any money, I did the next best thing; I used wood putty to even out the bad veneer and sanded it down. Then, painted and distressed it and I looove it!

Please be kind and remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! πŸ˜‰ I know there are some of you out there who would be horrified at the thought of painting it or who can do a better distressing job but allow me to say, I’m pretty happy with it! ((:

I’ve been thinking of rubbing some stain on it to add some depth to the areas that I distressed but I haven’t been to the hardware store. So, as of now, it sits pretty as is!

It provides a sitting place in our hallway but that could change soon. Who knows?! πŸ˜‰

Have a wonderful day and thanks for visiting!

Let’s Have Christmas at My Place!

The holidays are here and I’ve been enjoying every bit of them! So, I haven’t really been posting much here. That’s not to say I haven’t been creating stuff, I just haven’t had a chance to post about it. But I wanted to share my Christmas dΓ©cor with you guys because this is my favorite season of the year!! So, brace yourselves for an overload of pictures!! This year, I didn’t spend any money on Christmas dΓ©cor because I used only things I already had, and some magnolia leaves and twigs from my backyard.

Of course, the smallest of my old windows had to make an appearance for Christmas because it’s among my most favorite things.

I had been nagging at the boyfriend to make me a wooden box like that one and one day, while roaming the very back of my favorite thrift shop, I found this treasure!! And get this; for only $1! Can’t get any better than that!

And there are my beloved shutters and some of the decoration gifts I wrapped a few years ago, too! Don’t they just look so perfect?!

PicMonkey Collager324325

I’ve always wanted to do an advent calendar but I never have room to display one. So, this year I added chalkboard tags with numbers on them directly onto the tree, instead.

I decorated in the dining room too but I didn’t really take that many pictures. The side with the glass dome is the center piece for our table. I just kind of threw stuff together into a square basket and called it a day.

I’ve also always wanted a real tree but since I’d rather avoid the mess it would make, I’ve yet to have one but this year I did get a real wreath. It hangs on the inside of our back door and it makes our kitchen smell soooo good!!

I’m always on the look for white dishes (I’ve got an insatiable love for them)! So, when I found this pretty little pitcher for $2 at a thrift shop, I snatched it! And now it sits pretty among the rest of my dΓ©cor. The picture beside it is of some twigs that sit on the buffet in our dining room but I didn’t get any other pictures of them. I also hung chalkboard numbers and bells from them.

So, there you have it! I’ve got more to show you (some more wreaths, the dining room, and the little one’s bedroom that was decorated too) but it’s been difficult getting some good pictures because it gets dark too early and we all know that the best light for pictures is daylight! πŸ˜‰

Hopefully, I get a chance, to do another post and share the rest. I hope you guys are enjoying the holidays too, and I wish you have the most wonderful Christmas ever!!

Happy Holidays!!

Bittersweet Change

As I’ve been getting mentally prepared to move from our apartment into a rental house, I’ve been feeling all kinds of emotions. I know it’s just an apartment but for the past five years it’s been home to us and I’ve grown to love this place! I’ve worked on so many projects to specifically flow with the layout of it and I’m saddened to take them down. Like this little nook in our tiny hallway that I only recently made that MEMORIES sign for.

It’s a piece of left over trim from a renovation that was done in our office at work and I kept it as a reminder that there have been great memories made both in that office and in this space we’ve grown to call home.

I’ve also been making small changes here and there that I haven’t had a chance to share so I’ll just share them now while I’m still not too busy settling in after our move this coming weekend.

This is one of my favorite photos of my sister and me and I had that empty oval frame that I found a thrift shop for a while. So, I decided to put chicken wire on the back of it and mod podged a little bit of lace on a clothes pin to hang the photo with it. And voila, I love it!! πŸ˜‰

Here it is a little clearer, side by side with my MEMORIES sign (although one sits on an entryway table and the other is on the wall in the hallway).

I also found a pretty jewelry box while thrifting and I painted it white and now it sits pretty on the entryway table too. I will try do a before and after post on it but for now here’s a sneak peek of it! Isn’t the top of it just gorgeous?!

And last but not least, here is my most recent roadside rescue! It is an old dresser mirror but the mirror was shattered. I absolutely loooove its shape and I just knew my coffee filter wreath would look beautiful in it. I removed the shattered mirror and painted it a semi-gloss white. Here it is in all of it’s glory!

I’ve been experimenting with lettering on the chalkboards I’ve got and I’m not totally loving this writing because I’m a perfectionist but it’s pretty good for now! πŸ˜‰ Here’s a closer look at it.

So, there you have it! I apologize for the picture overload but I tried to cram it all in one post because I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a while until I post again because of the move (and because I’ve got a list of new projects already waiting to happen for the house)! It’s a bittersweet moment in our life right now because we are leaving this place behind but I am also really excited for the new chapter we are about to step into and for all of the new nooks and crannies that I will get to transform and make just as special as this place feels to us!

Have a happy day, you guys!! Thanks for stopping by!!

Bedroom Details

We are getting ready to move from our apartment into a house in a few weeks and for some reason that has made me start nesting. I have been working on lots of small projects and one fabulous bigger one that I will share on my next post (All I can say for now is that it’s the most amazing curbside find ever!).

I can’t really do too much changing around here since it would be pointless because we are moving soon but I’m going to share some small changes I’ve made in our bedroom. My favorite is this old mirror! It’s pretty heavy and it was a goldish brownish color. I painted it semi-gloss white and I love it!

The date on the back of it says it was inspected in June of 1962, so it’s definitely old! It also is a horrible mirror to look at yourself into. It’s reflection is sort of warped. Notice the way the canvas in the reflection seems curved a little on the corner. So, I hung it in a corner of our bedroom where we wont see our reflection as we walk by. It’s pretty to look at but not to look into (below you can see there is nothing wrong with the canvas).

I had had the boyfriend’s and my initial stored away for a while but when I found two 16×20 canvases I knew immediately that they would look perfect on them. So, I did a coat of white semi-gloss paint on them so they would look cleaner and just hot glued the initials on them, and hung them above our bed.

I’ve also been finding lots of new milk glass pieces and I’ve been incorporating them into every room, including our bedroom. I had an old chalkboard that I had no room for anywhere else but it’s too pretty to get rid of it. So, it’s being used as a tray to sit these beautiful old books on and some of my milk glass pieces.

The details on it are so pretty!! I’ve got more to show you guys but I don’t have any pictures of any of it yet. I’ve been kind of slacking a bit as far as taking pictures goes. My camera and I really need to get reacquainted soon!!

I’ll be back soon! Thank you for stopping by, you guys!! Have a wonderful weekend!

A Sign and An Update On My Trunk

I love farmhouse signs but I am not good at handwriting on a large scale nor do I have a nifty machine to make my own graphics (though I would love to)!

A few months ago, my sister and I found an old ice chest on the side of the road (the kind that’s made from repurposed wood) but it was broken and missing pieces. So, I took it apart and salvaged the wood so I can make something with it.

Here’s my first project from my stash of wood. I used this technique to transfer the words onto it and then sanded it down till it looked old and worn.

It’s not really big but it sits pretty above my shutters and plates in the dining room.

And since I’d already admitted my fetish for numbers, let me share a picture of my updated trunk too. πŸ˜‰

This is the technique I used for it. I messed up a little bit on the edge of the number but I kind of like it like that!

So, there you have it. That’s what I’ve been up to. I hope you guys are enjoying your Sunday. This morning, we finally got some fallish type of weather here and it felt amazing outside!! I hope it’s nice wherever you are, too!! ((:

Color My World! ;)

Spring and Fall are my favorite but each year it seems they take longer to manifest. I am so ready for cooler weather and hot cocoa but since this is Texas, it still feels pretty much like summer around here. As much as I love to see the greenery, I’m ready for some fall colors and so I added some color to my pretty white porch!

It all started with this burlap wreath and that chevron ribbon. From then on, I was inspired!! I am currently fully embracing a stenciling and number fetish. So, prepare yourselves to see numbers and words on lots of the stuff I post for a while!! >.<

Pillows are the best accessories but they can be pretty pricey. So, I made that pretty pillow and I must say I am kind of proud of how pretty my number two turned out! I couldn’t find a stencil that big so I had to free hand it. Not bad, huh? πŸ˜‰

I also have a fetish for incorporating old things in my dΓ©cor (as you have probably already guessed)! I found that old metal round thing and decided my bird nest would look perfect in it! And what do you know? I love it when I’m right!! πŸ˜€

I have tons of other ongoing projects because-brace yourselves-I’m already thinking Christmas dΓ©cor! what can I say? I am not big on Halloween decorations! Can’t blame a girl for having priorities! πŸ˜‰

Have a wonderful Sunday, you guys!!

Baby Fever

I apologize for publishing twice in one day but since I don’t know when I will get a chance to post again and I am dying to share these with you guys, I will go ahead and publish this post as well.

A few months ago, I got hooked on making baby things! These are some of my absolute favorites! The first two photos are not clear enough but those two onesies were just dreamy.

I attached a tutu to this one and it looked so pretty and poofy!

I loved this one just as much, though. I couldn’t pick just one favorite, that’s why I posted all three of them.

I’ve been giving it a lot of thought to looking into doing baby photography as a hobby. Some of my friends are still having babies and newborns just melt my heart! What better excuse to steal them away from their mammas for a little while than to photograph them? Hmmm, I shall look into that!! πŸ˜‰

Thanks for coming by!!

I Did it Again!

I’ve been feeling anxious and when anxiety gets the best of me, I clean house! When I say I clean house I mean I really clean house. I spent the three day holiday weekend clearing out dresser drawers, getting rid of old paperwork that I no longer needed, and cleaning out our closets.

I ended up with a good amount of things that I couldn’t bring myself to throw away because they were in pretty good shape but since I’m not a fan of having garage sales, my son and I drove down the street to a Salvation Army thrift store and donated it all there.

Walking into an uncluttered home is the best feeling in the world! It really does make me feel accomplished and I feel a lot less anxious (I think I’ve even been sleeping better since purging all of that stuff, too)! πŸ˜‰

Anyway, so getting down to business. My favorite spot in this house is my desk area. For a while I’d been experimenting with different things on the walls but I have finally set it up in a way that makes me feel like I am really home when I sit here! I purged this area too and I’ve surrounded myself with only things that remind me of the goodness of life!

I will shamelessly admit that I am addicted to old junk more than ever!! Here’s my new little corner! All clean and crisp!

I picked up the window from a curb, the chalkboard was a frame I picked up from a thrift shop and transformed it with the help of spray paint and chalkboard paint. The Canvas was a gift and since I didn’t know what else to do with it-because my creative juices have been running short lately-I opted for a quick-no-fuss project by hand writing one of my favorite quotes on it.

The camera was also a gift from a nice lady that works at a thrift shop that I frequent and the milk glass pieces are also thrift shop finds (my absolute favorite, btw).

Best of all, I’ve got all of my favorite things in one place and some of my favorite faces in the entire world smiling back at me! What more can I ask for? πŸ˜‰

I’ve got other pending projects and as soon as I gather enough motivation energy to do them, I will post about them. Is it too crazy to admit that I’m getting kind of excited for holiday decorating already?!! >.<

Thanks for stopping by, you guys!!
