Christmas 2014

There are so many projects that I wish I had the time to upload but it just isn’t always possible for me to do so. Last year, I didn’t get to share my Christmas decorating so I thought I’d share it now to inspire myself to begin gathering ideas for this year. πŸ˜‰ First, I gave red and gold a try and then I took everything off my tree and started all over again.

Red and gold was pretty but I just love white so much that I couldn’t do without it!! My first project was this cowbell swag that I made for my smallest old window.

Next, I found an old cd storage box, painted it and filled up with candles and Christmas greenery to make a center piece for the coffee table.

It’s been a while since I gave this mirror its makeover. When I first found it, it was a sad looking gold and blue. So, I sanded it, primed it and painted it. Then, I sanded it again to give it that worn out look that I love. Doesn’t it just look so festive with that wreath on it and my favorite snowflake garland?

Here’s a couple more pictures… And now I’m off to get my Christmas dΓ©cor down from the attic to begin preparing.

In the meantime, I hope you guys are enjoying decorating for fall.

Another Baby Celebration!

Some time last month my sister in law invited me to a friend’s baby shower (which took place yesterday) and I offered to help make some of the decorations just because I’m nice like that! Lol! πŸ˜‰ Actually, more because I like to experiment with making things that are out of my comfort zone. So, I was asked to work with a pink and purple Hello Kitty theme and here is what I came up with.

I ended up with these cute and colorful center pieces, two signs to put on the tables, and a wish tree.

I also made two pretty matching banners. One was of the baby’s name and the other one (that I didn’t take any decent pictures of) just spelled out GIFTS for the gifts table.

Then, I decorated a picture frame to use on the main table (although here it’s photographed hanging on the wall).

Overall, I liked the end result more than I imagined I would even though I ended up not being able to attend the shower. I hope they enjoyed everythig as much as I enjoyed making it!

Happy Sunday, you guys!!

Fabric Flowers Wreath

I had a huge wreath on my door that I decorated at the beginning of the year but it was really old because it had been passed down to me from my mom and she had already had it for a while when she gave it to me. It started looking worn out and I wanted to make a new one without spending any money so I got my thinking wheels to spinning and my creative juices started flowing!! πŸ˜‰ I used a wreath form that I purchased at the dollar store and spray painted last year but I didn’t like the look of it then so I put it away until now.

I’ve had those two small oval frames hanging by my front door and I love them too much to take them down so I wanted to incorporate more of my porch decor to go with them instead. That’s when I remember the spray painted wreath form that I had in my closet and I pulled it out! At first, I was only going to decorate it with the rolled fabric rosettes but I had made a lot of ruffles for another project that turned out to be a complete failure (yes, I have quite a few of those) and I stashed them away for later, too!

I made two small pillows out of some left over drop cloth from previous projects and I added some of the ruffles to them. Then, I made those white flowers with the rest of the ruffled fabric and I mixed them with the rosettes to add to the wreath. I took the bird and the nest from my old wreath and added it to this one too and voila, here you have the finished product!!

I can’t decide if it’s summery enough but I like how it gives my porch a fresh feel and I love so much how the wreath and the pillows go with the frames so well.

Here’s a closer look at the ruffled fabric flowers

Thanks for stopping by, you guys!!! Have a great rest of the day.

Bestfriends Are a Blessing

I love my best friend! We have known each other for nearly twenty years and I look forward to many, many years of friendship! πŸ˜‰

Back in August of last year I made the decorations for her baby shower (she was pregnant with her second baby boy) and I posted about it here. Then, when he was born I had the privilige to be the first to take his picture and I couldn’t help but make his birth announcements, too!!

And now I also had the joy of making some center pieces for his baptism and I just had to share them with you guys!!

It was on Easter Sunday! So, I couldn’t resist the urge to make them a bit Eastery? Yes, I know that’s not a word! These were actually my favorite ones because they were made with marshmallows, edible grass and candy eggs but my absolute favorite was the bunting on them!! πŸ˜‰

I used twigs on them and I love them so much but apparently everyone’s favorite ones were these:

I honestly love both of them and couldn’t choose between the two!! Here’s one last look at this handsome little guy!! ((:

There’s something about doing things for the people I love that makes my heart happy and this was one of them!! Hope you guys had a great Easter and are having a wonderful start of the week!!

Picture Gallore (No Kidding)! ;)

I caught spring cleaning fever a few weeks ago and I also decided to change from the maroon that I had in my living room to cooler colors for spring! The best part of this transformation is that I mostly used things I already owned and a whole lot of spray paint!! (:

These shutters are what started it all! I found them at a thrift shop for only $4. They were white so I painted them and that is how aqua came into the picture!! πŸ˜‰ I initially had put my rolled book pages wreath over them but I liked it better over the mirror in the dining room so I changed things around a little!!

Then, I just couldn’t stop myself from painting everything else-it seems!! πŸ˜‰ See for yourself! I’m still looking for a tutorial on how to sew a chair cover for my maroon desk chair so imagine it with a white cover on! πŸ˜‰

Among some of the things that I made, were those aqua and brown pillows covers. They are made out of those $1.99 bandanas that they sell at Hobby Lobby. I used two bandanas for each pillow but I got them when they were fifty percent off so it cost me $1.99 for each pillow cover. Not bad, huh? I may post a tutorial for them later. They are super easy to make!!

I’m pretty content with how everythng looks but I’m thinking about adding red too! I’m not sure if I can pull it off but I may just try it!!

Good night, my friends!!

Adding Yellow to The Mix

I recently added aqua to my living room and I had followed this cherry blossom tutorial to make some yellow blossoms to add to my book page wreath. So I followed the same tutorial and made some more for these branches.

Then I decorated some clothespins with yellow and white scrap booking paper to hang pictures in a frame that I have in the living room as well.

I’m really liking how everything is coming together. Here’s one last close up of the clothespins! πŸ˜‰

Thanks for stopping by, hope you’re having a great evening!! ((:

DIY Personalized Art

Picnik has announced that they will be permanently shutting down on April 19, 2012. I’m a bit saddened by it because I love that site so much!! Now I’m faced with the task of finding another user-friendly site such as theirs and we know how difficult that is going to be! If any of you know of a similar site with similar features, please, pretty please share it with me!! I will be forever grateful if you do!! (:

In the mean time I’ve decided to take advantage of its features while it’s still running and I got to work and this is the latest thing that I came up with:

Then, I printed it on cardstock paper and got to the task of finding the perfect frame for it and I must say that lately I’ve been getting pretty darn lucky because I found that beautiful frame at one of my favorite thrift shops for only $1.75 (yes, that’s right) and the best part about it is that it was already that color (double win for me)!! The picture opening fits an 8X10 so it’s a pretty good size and fits right into my new color scheme in the living room!

Isn’t it just gorgeous?!! If I say so myself!! πŸ˜‰ I am sad that Picnik is shutting down but happy to tell those of you that don’t have an account with them that all of their premium features are free until the day that they shut down for good! So, if you’d like to make your own personalized art go to their site and take advantage of the opportunity.

I’m in love with mine and if I’ve inspired you to make your own, I’d love to see it!!

Have a great night, my friends!!

My Spring Wreath

I’ve loved my rolled book page wreath since the day I made it! First is was an autumn wreath.

Then, it transformed into a Christmas wreath

And now it’s blossomed into a spring wreath and is by far my favorite!!

After going on a lunch date with the boyfriend on friday (just this past friday!) we decided to do a little thrifting at one of my favorite shops and I found these small shutters, they were white but I’ve been in love with the aqua color for some time (as you can see from my blog header and background) so, I brought these babies home and spray painted them yesterday morning.

Then I got to work on my wreath. I wanted to make a new spring wreath but I decided, instead, to repurpose this one. So I got to work. I added a few of the cherry blossom branches that I made following a tutorial that I had saved on my pinterest board a while back (I tried to link to it but it didn’t work) and then I just added a chalboard tag (one of my favorite things) and there you have it!

Aren’t those shutters just the most perfect backdrop for it? I must say that this little project has prompted a total change of the color scheme in our living room but we are loving the end result! I’ll post pictures of the rest of the updates as soon as I get a chance.

Here’s one last shot of it!!

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!!

The Little One’s Bedroom Makeover (:

Life’s been getting in the way of creating things so I haven’t been making much of anything. However, the little one came home with awesome grades on her report card this past week and a bedroom makeover was inevitable! (: I had been thinking about it for a while because she seems to have a very big dislike for all things pink but I didn’t have a definite date or time that I wanted it done by.

We went with more “grown up colors” this time and I think it’s been a hit even with big brother! πŸ˜‰ The first thing I made was this pillow because those are the basic colors that we wanted to incorporated with the rest of the room.

Then, I decided to introduced yellow into the scheme and I liked how it looked so I kept it! (:

And I made that polka dot pillow with the yellow flower.

Then, I made some ruffles out of red fabric and covered the lampshade with them.

I think that lampshade is one of my favorite things! But the cuteness couldn’t stop there! I also painted an old jewelry box to match the theme and I love it just as much as the lampshade! Lol!

Here’s a close up of the little guy! I initially intended to mod podge some of the yellow polka dot craft paper on the top of it but I ran out of time ( but I may still do it later).

And the last things that I made to complete the look were this dry erase frame to hang on the entrance to her room where we can leave her messages and this tiny chalkboard sign to hang on her bedroom door!

Here’s a shot of her bedroom before

and one last shot of it now.

There you have it, hope you guys enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed the process! Have a great sunday, everyone!! (:

Wreath Makeover Part II (:

I mentioned on my last post that (in the spirit of the holidays) I had also updated my coffee filter wreath from this

to this and that that I would be back to share it.

and some bright red ribbon and voila! It’s a lovely Christmas wreath!!

I almost feel sad thinking about having to take it apart when the Christmas season is over but for now I’ll enjoy looking at it everyday!! ((:

May you too be enjoying this holiday season, my friends!!

Have a great night, you guys!!
